Chimes of Freedom — Bob Dylan

Updated: May 4, 2023

Artist: Bob Dylan
Title: Chimes of Freedom
Year: 1964
Producer: Tom Wilson
Genre: Folk Rock

I chose this song as one of my "challenges" because, unlike my prior selections, it was released in the twentieth century. Its classification as a folk rock song is also different from the usual music I listen to. However, I feel it is a timeless song.

The video I selected with which to present Chimes of Freedom spreads awareness on political activism in Venezuela. While it is not directly related to movements in America, it is personal to me because of my heritage. Moreover, the states of authoritarian governments, such as in Venezuela, affect emigration to the United States. They can also impact international relations and, as citizens of the world, it is our duty to be aware of issues outside of our country.

Connection to Playlist

Chimes of Freedom, similar to My Country, discusses social injustices. Its poetic nature alludes to the Liberty Bell, with an anticipation to hear the chimes of freedom ring. Doing so evokes a sense of glory and is proof that liberty has been achieved.
